Master Yourself, and Master Your Life

When you can master your life 100%, you get to call the shots. You decide where you want to work, how you want to work, how much money you want to make and without limits, where you want to live, how you want to live and what you want to me. When you are your own master, nobody can dictate any of the above. It is entirely up to you.

It sounds great! Doesn’t it?

But Wait!!! There’s one thing. Have your learned to master yourself?

If I were to make a guess, I would say “not quite”. If I’m wrong, you need not read any further, but if you are like 99% of the people, you can do better with this.

Until you learn to master yourself, you cannot master your life and becoming financially free will be extremely difficult, if not impossible.

What does it mean to master oneself? More importantly How?

To master yourself, you need to first break bad and non-productive habits. If you are addicted to drugs, including alcohol, you will first need to overcome these habits. They not only waste time and money. They waste your mind and they sap motivation. Show me someone who is hung-over or high, I guaran-damn-tee you that they are not doing anything that will make them rich. You will see these people call into work sick, or worse, show-up drunk and completely screw something up.

Overcoming such habits as drugs or alcohol is not easy. To overcome them quickly and more easily, it is advisable to seek professional help. You will usually have a team of psychologists and psychiatrists who know the ins and outs of breaking habits and who serve as friends and cheerleaders for you throughout your process of breaking habits.

After you have gotten rid of the bad habits, you need to replace them with good and productive habits. If you want to be rich, you need to start implementing the same habits rich people have.

Consider this the HOW:

Below are some habits that rich people have that you can implement in your life starting now:

  1. Start reading books on a consistent basis. If you read my article on how reading can help you be rich, you will see that wealthy people read an average over 60 books per year. That may seem like a lot, so you can start out a little less. Perhaps you can read 30 books per year or you may even be able to read a book a week. If you don’t feel you have time to read, think of all the things you do to waste time. How many hours do you watch TV per week? Can you limit that? If you truly do not have time to read, you may want to invest in some audio books or sign up with Audible and listen to books while driving to work or while exercising. It is recommended that you read books on success, leadership, business, wealth, although you can read some fiction too. Not only does reading books teach you new skills, it will make you more of a master of yourself. Remember? If you master yourself, you master your life. Reading books is a great start!
  2. Start getting up early. Did you know that the majority of wealthy people get up between 4 and 5 in the morning? The saying “the early bird gets the worm” really means something. I would say “The early human gets the cash”. We tend to waste a lot of time during the evenings and stay up way too late, so we have trouble getting up early, if we get up early, we tend to get the day started early and get a lot more done. When evening comes around, you will find that you will be too tired to stay up late and will find it easy to get to bed. This transition is not easy, but it will payoff and in more ways than just being able to get more done. You also learn to master yourself even further, and remember, if you master yourself, you master your life.
  3. Take 15 minutes each day to relax, meditate, and think. When your mind is in a relaxed state of mind, ideas will more easily flow to you. Sometimes these ideas will be money making ideas.
  4. Start a side business. I am saying this assuming you work a regular 9 to 5 job since that is what most people do. Most wealthy people earn their big money from businesses, not from a job. Don’t quit your day job, continue working hard at it, but when you return home, you spend at least 5 to 10 hours per week working your side business. Once you earn enough money from your business to cover your expenses plus some, then you can quit your day job. MLM and affiliate marketing are great ways to start. My Affiliate Marketing business is Wealthy Affiliate and with this you have the potential to replace your full time income.

There are more habits that you will need to build to fully master your life, but these are a great start. Remember, master yourself, and master your life. See you at the top!

This One Thing will Make or Break You

There is One Thing inside of each of us that can determine whether we will be financially successful or dead broke. This one thing is why some people live on the streets, while others live in a multi-million dollar penthouse in Manhattan. It’s this one thing that determines if someone is happily married or living in solitary loneliness.

What is this thing? It is:

Attitude!

Our attitude determines how we meet the challenges that present themselves to us each day. All of us have crappy moments, crappy days, crappy weeks, crappy months, even crappy years. It’s how we react to these challenges that determines whether we come out winners or losers on the other side.

The Rich Have Gone Through Trials Too

People are under the mistaken belief that the rich have become how they are because of dumb luck, or because they were born into a rich family. Although the latter can be true, in most cases, the rich are rich because they set a goal, and they stuck with it through thick and thin. The road to riches is jam-packed full of trials, pitfalls, struggles, doubt, depression, feelings of worthlessness, and most people give up. The rich have persisted with a winning attitude, and if they get knocked over, they get back up again. If they face pitfalls, they may take a day or two rest and they get back up again and persist until they reach their goal.

How a Bad Attitude Kept a Collegue Poor and Single

I know of a guy, let’s call him Grouchy Gus. Now Gus was not his real name as I want to keep it private. This man’s wife divorced him 12 years ago at the time of this writing. He felt so hurt by this loss, that even today, he is not in any type of loving relationship with anyone right now. He often talks about how much he would love to get back together with his ex-wife. On the same note, he will talk about the terrible things she does to him to try to collect more and more money for child support, including lying to the judge in court, yet he cannot let go of her.

I don’t want to minimize how hard a divorce can be on someone, it’s a life-altering event that can be extremely difficult to get past. However, the attitude someone in that position needs to have is an abundance attitude. He first needs to accept the fact that he will never get back with his wife again, and that there are other women out there with whom he is compatible. If he had this better attitude, he would probably be in a different place today. He would probably be with someone and would probably have a better career, better health, and a happier life.

Have you heard the saying that if you succeed heavily in just one aspect of your life, that other aspects fall into place pretty much automatically? The same is true for those who let one aspect fail in their life. If you let your love life fail because you are unwilling to move on, your career, health, and happiness will likely go with it.

Read an Autobiography on Someone Successful

You should be reading at least a book per week. That’s what the rich do…..Get this right and other aspects will fall into place. One of your books can be an autobiography, or even a biography on a rich person or successful person. Abraham Lincoln has some biographies written about him and his life of extreme struggle, depression, loss, and disappointment, all leading up to his presidency. What was his secret to overcoming all these challenges and being recognized as one of the most successful people in history? His attitude, he had the right attitude and stuck to his goals.

Read some other biographies and autobiographies of successful people and you will often find stories of struggle, of loss, of depression, and how they overcame these hurdles with the right attitude.

What you can do now

No matter where you are now, if you are in a crappy low-paying job, lonely, divorced, even if you feel you are a downright loser. Try to change your attitude from this moment forward and have the attitude that you will win in life. Look at your current state of affairs, and see them as a temporary setback. See the light at the end of the tunnel and run toward it. It won’t be easy, but with the right attitude, you can do anything and you can overcome any challenge and come out stronger on the other side.

Robert Kiyosaki’s Book on Network Marketing!

Everybody and anybody who’s somebody in the world of entrepreneurship knows that Robert Kiyosaki has written several books on financial freedom, investing, and much more.

There are not a lot of people however, who know that he has written a book about Network Marketing. I think the biggest reason people don’t realize that he has written such a book is because the Title of the book does not contain the words Network Marketing, MLM, nor Multi-level Marketing, not even Direct Selling!

Robert Kiyosaki’s book on Network Marketing is titled The Business School For People Who Like Helping People.

Reading this book will do 4 things for you. It will:

  1. Help you determine if Network Marketing is the best path for you

  2. Remove any doubts you may have on the legitimacy of MLM
  3. Re-ignite or increase your level of belief in MLM
  4. Re-ignite or increase your level of excitement and motivation

This book does not:

  1. Provide tips on network marketing
  2. Teach business building skills
  3. Recommend any specific Network Marketing Company

Help you determine if Network Marketing is the best path for you

There are many paths you can take to reach your financial goals, especially if your goal is Financial Freedom. Network marketing is just one of these paths. Robert Kiyosaki lists other ways you can become rich outside of Network Marketing and he gives the pros and cons of each.

Robert also spells out the kind of person you need to become in order to be successful in Network Marketing. The Title says it all, you need to like helping people, whether that’s helping someone learn the skills needed to succeed in their business, or helping them save money on their utilities or take better care of their health through the supplements you sell.

He also explains the benefits that come from becoming successful in a network marketing business, not just in more money and more free time, but other benefits that snowball from more money and more time.

Finally, Robert will let you know what type of person will NOT be successful Network Marketing and will even tell you story of someone he knows who was at one time extremely successful in MLM, lost everything, and went bankrupt and what you can do to avoid letting this happen to you.

Remove any doubts you may have on the legitimacy of MLM

Let’s face it, Network Marketing is probably one of the most controversial ways to make money and to reach financial freedom. In my opinion, the industry is misunderstood, I think if most people looked at the industry with fresh eyes and an open mind, they would see this a very legitimate way to reach one’s financial goals and not just an industry of pyramid schemes.

Because of this stigma that Network Marketing has, and because of the lots of the rejection that comes with marketing this type of business opportunity, sometimes these doubts will enter into the minds of those who are Network Marketers. They may question themselves on whether what they are doing is legitimate or even honest. These doubts, if left unchecked, can impede the growth and progress of Network Marketers.

The good news is, that reading this book removes those doubts. Hearing a very successful business man give his positive, but very detailed insight and opinion on the Network Marketing industry is a great way to remove these doubts and increase confidence. It feels like you have Robert on your team as a cheerleader.

Re-ignite or increase your level of belief in MLM

Once you remove the doubts you may have about what you are doing, it becomes a lot easier to increase your level of belief in MLM. This book gives you a comparison with other business models and really lets you see how MLM may be the best way to reach financial freedom. He lists the benefits that come from doing MLM and your belief level goes up.

Re-ignite or increase your level of excitement and motivation

Once your belief goes up, you become really excited and really motivated about your business. Robert Kiyosaki’s wording in this book is very upbeat and positive. Reading this book and reading his words will give you a similar experience that you would have if you were listening to a motivational seminar put on by one of the highest income earners in your MLM company. It’s funny that Robert did not earn his wealth from a Network Marketing company, in this book, it sounds like he’s an expert in the industry.

This is only some of what this book does. This book will dispel a myth about the MLM industry too. Have you ever heard someone tell you that you do not need to sell or be a salesperson to be successful in MLM? Robert touches on the importance of sales skills and MLM in this book.

The Business School For People Who Like Helping People is one of the best books on Network Marketing and despite how much information is packed in this book, it is only 128 pages. You can read this book in just a few hours, even if your’e a slow reader.

Pick up a copy of this book today, and see what difference this will make in your business and your finances!

Does Religion Get in the Way of Financial Success?

This may be viewed as a controversial post, but it really shouldn’t be. Many religious people believe they have to choose between being rich and a humble follower of God. Some of this stems from Biblical verses found in the New Testament. Some of this belief comes from what is said at the pulpit from local pastors, and some of this stems from certain religions’ specific beliefs about following an exact blue print that God wants you to follow, and being rich ain’t part of this blue print.

Biblical Verses

The two most sighted verses from the New Testament are

“For the love of money is the root of all evil”

“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

So many Christian people will look at these verses as well as some others and will come to the conclusion that being wealthy is evil.

Sometimes they will have a winning financial opportunity fall right into their lap, and when all they have to do is take action, they choose to rattle off one of these verses and they push the opportunity away.

Other times they will use these verses as an excuse to not get ahead at their place of employment.

Back when I was an Indepedent Rep for the MLM company Excel Communications (out of business now), it was my first MLM that I had ever joined and I was really excited. I went and told my church friends all about it and tried to recruit them. Although I had no luck with them, other than a couple of people who signed up as customers, there was one particular guy, we will call him John, even though that wasn’t his name.

While most people at my church just said they weren’t interested, this particular guy John really made an effort to try to “save” me. He quoted both of the verses above, and many more. I only mentioned the MLM opportunity to him once, but we talked about it many times over the course of more than a year. He was the opposite of that guy who can’t shut up about his MLM opportunity. He couldn’t stop trying to convince me to leave my MLM opportunity.

Now here’s where it gets interesting. He was a pretty bright young man, but he worked in road construction making $8 an hour. He lived in a poor and unfortunately dangerous side of town. He drove an old car that always broke down, in other words, he was the epitome of poor. I even tried to coax him into jobs that paid $12 an hour that I knew he was more than qualified for, but he was insistent on staying put at all cost. He really took those Biblical verses to heart and refused to pull himself up by his boot straps.

Intentionally keeping one self poor is far more evil than becoming wealthy.

Local Pastors and Leaders

There were quite a number of people in one of my church congregations who were recruited by a guy who was also in our congregation to join the MLM company Amway. He recruited a small handful of people, and they went out and pretty much tried to recruit everyone else. Some people in the congregation complained to the pastor and the pastor decided to get up to the pulpit and do something about it.

Instead of going up to the pulpit and requesting people to not bother other congregation members about their MLM opportunity, he got up and outright condemned the whole business model of MLM, calling it an evil abomination and calling those who were involved in this MLM business to repentance. Now, this was Amway, a legitimate MLM opportunity. Now, what effect did this have? Well, people in the congregation for the most part believed him and walked away from that sermon with the belief that MLM is evil. How dare someone try to be rich!!!

God has a Blueprint, being rich ain’t part of it

Okay, not all religions follow this belief, but there are some. And what does this whole blueprint thing even mean? Have you ever heard anyone say “thy will be done”? In some religions, it is believed that you need to follow God’s will on everything in life, whether that be employment, a career choice, even a spouse. You will hear it said, sometimes in the form of an excuse, “it’s wasn’t God’s will.”

This has gotten so extreme, that they are people who don’t even live for themselves. They feel they need God’s permission to do just about anything. Just as the Biblical verses mentioned above do, they allow this belief of needing to follow God’s will to hinder success in the workplace and becoming rich, all because they are afraid that following such a course of action to wealth……..just may be against God’s will for me.

During some of my attempts to share an MLM opportunity with members of my congregation, some of them answered to me that they needed to pray about it to see if God would give them permission. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with praying about a business opportunity, but it’s all in how you do it, praying for God’s permission versus praying for financial success.

During a time when I was struggling with my MLM business, my roommate who was part of my congregation suggested that I was not having success because what I was doing was against God’s will and that God did not want me to be rich.

If you spend your time waiting to get God’s permission to be rich, you will forever stay poor.

Sometimes I wonder why rich people sometimes stray away from their church and congregation. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the judge mental attitude toward rich people that exists in their church. -_- Sense the sarcasm there?

How to be Wealthy and Religious

As a religious person myself, I will state this in the most sensitive way I know how:

“It is not a sin for you to be rich! It is not against God’s will for you to be rich!”

As far as the Bible verses go. Just remember to be generous with your extra wealth. Donate to charities generously. Give to the poor. If you do this and do it on a consistent basis, these Bible verses do not apply to you.

Also, if you are generous, it will never be against’s God’s will for you to be rich. Did he not command us to give to the poor? How can we possibly do this……..if we are poor?

What more? According to the universal Law of Attraction, the more you give, the more you will receive. So those who are not generous and become evil because of their wealth, are likely to lose it all anyway.

Final Word

I hope that I did not come off anti-religious in this post. I am actually quite religious myself. I don’t mock religion as much as a mock some religious people who take their religion to the point of being self-destructive.

People Must Like You – important!

You may be tempted to overlook and ignore this post. I beg of you, for your own good, to read this post all the way through. Why? Because people prefer doing business with people they like! On the flip side, NOBODY likes to do business with people they do not like. It’s really that simple.

How can you get people to like you?

The answer is simple, but the process and the bad habits you need to break and the good habits you need to adopt are not easy. However, the largest and most difficult journeys begin with a single step.

What can you do today to make more people start to like you?

1. Show an interest in them

It is tempting to go out in public or to a party and want to talk about ourselves a lot. We want to talk about our job, our family, our spouse, our kids, our house, our successes, and much much more.

I admit it feels good, but take a moment to switch roles. What if someone else approached you or had a conversation with you and all they talked about was them self? How would you feel? Well, if you’re like most people, you would probably resent that person and maybe even make fun of him or her behind his back. So keep this in mind if you are tempted to tell someone about all the places you have traveled.

Do this instead:

Next time you are with a friend, or a new acquaintance, ask the other person questions about himself or herself. Be genuinely interested in their responses and learning about them as a whole. If you adopt the philosophy that you can learn something new from everybody with whom you come in contact, it will make it easier to find interest in them.

After each question you ask about them, let them respond and you listen to them. Do not talk, do not interrupt them, but do be interested. Don’t fake it or don’t go into the conversation with any other motive other than their interests.

2. Complement them

During the course of your conversation, or other circumstances where you are dealing with people, find something they do well and complement them on it. Just like with showing interest in them, make sure it is genuine. If you can’t find anything to complement them on, don’t complement them. Being phony is always a lot worse than saying nothing at all.

If you are at a restaurant and your waiter/server provides you with excellent service, you let them know about it. What will that person do? They will go home at the end of the day feeling like a million dollars. Imagine if a lot more people did that, imagine the impact that would have on society.

3. Look to solve their needs, not your needs

This sounds very obvious and seems like it should belong in the course People 101, but it would surprise you how many people in Sales or Network Marketing go out to work with the mentality of trying to make a commission, or trying to build a downline. They go out prospecting for themselves and their own success in mind, that they completely fail to think about the person to whom they are selling.

When you are selling a product or selling a business opportunity, always ask questions of the other person to discover their true needs and their true desires. If what you are selling is a match for them, they will know it and will basically sell it to themselves. You may have to give a gentle little push to resolve any remaining concerns they may have, but you should never have to convince them or hard-sell them. If your product or service is not a match, then that’s okay too. No need to push a service down someone’s throat who doesn’t need it.

Do you want a satisfied customer after the sale who will tell everyone how great you are because you listen to them, complement them, and look to resolve their needs? Or would you rather have a dissatisfied customer who tells everyone that you pressured them into buying something they did not need or want, or would you rather deal with returns and Better Business Bureau complaints? None of this sounds pleasant, so always put their needs first.

How does this apply to MLM sponsoring?

Would you rather discover a prospect’s needs and find out that your MLM opportunity is not a good fit for their needs and goals and they do not join you, but go out and tell their friends how awesome you are. Or you find out that your business opportunity is for them, they do join you and they work their tail off to grow their business, thereby making you more money?

Or

Would you rather hard sell someone into joining your organization when it’s not a good fit, and they resent you, talk bad about you to their friends, and even file a complaint against you with your MLM company?

I think the answer is obvious.

Getting in the habit of being interested in other people and their needs is not an easy habit to acquire, but if you do, success is yours, no matter what industry you are in.

So today, try to get people to like you by implementing the above strategies, even if you don’t do them perfectly, you will probably have more people liking you, and the more people that like you, the more people that will want to do business with you.
